The home is positioned to make the most of the site and amazing views, while working with some challenging planning scheme criteria. The home’s design is centered around passive solar design principles with a burnished concrete floor and internal brick wall to soak up the winter sun, and a wood stove to provide cosiness when the winter storms roll in. The pallet of materials was chosen for its raw, low maintenance and humble qualities that will stand the test of time physically and stylistically.
Internally the home is warm and calm and the simple material and colour scheme creates a wonderful backdrop for a slow and nourishing life! We don’t believe in ‘dream homes’ but we do believe in ‘dream lifestyles’, and this home is such a prime example of this. Leigh + Caitlin have now settled into their beautiful new home – they’re planting out the fruit tree orchard, and enjoying baths on the deck and breakfasts from their rocking chairs overlooking the bay!
Coming in at the modest size of 148m2, this home still feels so spacious and airy, and includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen/dining/living, and a whole lot of usable space + storage + extra fun bits!
- The lower level of 104m2 consists of open plan kitchen/dining/living, 2 bedrooms, deconstructed bathroom, laundry and mud entry.
- The upper mezzanine is 44m2 and includes the main bedroom, bathroom, walk-in robe, and study space.
- On the deck is outdoor cooking and a bath!
This simple layout is easy to navigate, which adds to the sense of calm. This home is so easy to live in – we want to move right in ourselves!
Caitlin and I can’t say enough good things about all of you in making this project come to life. The work that Designful have put in, through a particularly tricky approvals process, has been exceptional and made the process as seamless as it could possibly be. The design that we have ended up with is exactly what Caitlin and I are after, and we especially appreciate the collaborative nature of our interactions with us feeling heard all the way through.
