Sorell Home

This modest new home in Sorell is passive solar designed, with thermally broken windows, a 6.5kw solar array (the power bills are in the negative!),  and has a compact footprint at 137m2. The entire house enjoys great light – a miracle with a southerly oriented house – and is warm, cosy, welcoming and calm.

The brief was to design a comfortable but efficient downsize to grow older and slow down in. Our clients are keen veggie gardeners and fermenters, so we included easy access to the edible and medicinal garden and a roomy laundry/mud room for washing their veg and brewing their kombucha.

A challenge for us on this project was a subdivision covenant stating the home must be clad in 70% brick – that didn’t stop us from sneaking in some spotted gum!
